Arrested – What’s Next?

If you or a loved one has been arrested, you may have several questions about the next steps and how best to move forward. It will be top priority to get out of jail quickly and to reach out to someone who can clearly explain all of your options so that you can make the best decision for you or your loved one.

Working with a bail bond agent can help to ensure that you are well-taken care of and have the best chance to prove your innocence. Here are steps that should be taken when working with a bail bond company:

Call A Bail Bond Company

Once arrested, the court will determine if a person is eligible for bail and if they are eligible an amount will be set that is required in order for the person to be released from jail. In most cases, the amount set is more than a person can pay which is why they reach out to a bail bond company. If eligible, a bail bonding company will put up the fee for your release and will require important information such as:

  1. The full name of the person arrested;
  2. Which jail they are currently in;
  3. Their booking or report number;
  4. The charges they are accused of.

All of this information is necessary to help assist the bond company in the decision-making process. It is extremely important that all of the information provided is accurate – mistakes can put your request at a higher risk of being denied.

A bail bond company will be able to explain the next steps – walking you through the bond agreement and guiding you through the entire process so you know you’re making the right decision.

Paperwork

A bail bond agent will require specific paperwork to be completed in order to secure their services. This usually means paying a specific amount, usually a percentage of the total bail amount and signing off on any collateral for the bond. Once the paperwork is completed, the company can arrange for your release with the court. Here is a list of documents required for posting bail:

  • Application for Appearance
  • Authorization for Release of Personal Information
  • Confidential Application
  • Disclosure Notice
  • Indemnity
  • Promissory Note

All of these documents serve a purpose and ensure that the bail agent is filing the right bail terms for the right individual.

After all of the paperwork has been completed, a bail bond agent will meet you at the jail and provide cash for the full amount of the bail ordered by the judge and you will then be processed for release from jail.
